IGDA Bangalore held their last meetup for 2011 on the 23rd of September at the Asian Institute of Gaming and Animation, Bangalore. The theme for the meetup was 'Starting Up' and the schedule consisted of a talk on the theme, a session where people could present their games and an interactive mixer thereafter.
Manjith Krishnappa spoke of his experience of bringing up Phantasm Games, and the various issues that he faced from the start. The presentation was structured around aspects of the incorporation of the start up, the choice of the market segment to target, building a team, the means of revenue generation and the tools that are commonly used during development. Due to the nature of the topic, there was a lot of interaction throughout the session with questions asked about how one could go about the sourcing of funding, how to approach publishers and the ways in which one could identify a team to work with.
This was followed by a couple of demos where people came up to showcase some of the work they’d done. Sujeet Mehta, for one, is currently studying engineering and has started Pi Games. Sujeet demoed C3 – a concept that tries to help people learn math while being entertained. He described how he identified the team to work with, and their plans to take the game forward.
While the meet ups have been consistently held every two months, the forthcoming meetup will not happen in November since two of the larger game development summits in India will be happening during that time. The Indian Game Developer Summit, will take place in Bangalore on November 3rd while the NASSCOM Game Developer Conference is scheduled for November 11th and 12th in Pune. Therefore, the next meetup for IGDA Bangalore is expected to be in January.
